The Journey Begins

2019 has been a year of doing things I know nothing about or have zero skill in. Every detail of my life has changed. So now lets try my hand at writing, the thing I was second worst at in school after math!

“I love spending time with my friends and loved ones. The simplest things in life give me the most pleasure: cooking a good meal, enjoying my friends.“

I’ve decided to put together a blog about some of the things I love: Food, Wine, Friends, and Caring for People. While I would really enjoy telling you about the wines I’ve loved and the meals I’ve made/someone else has made for me, I also want to feature people and why they cook for people. Don’t get me wrong you’ll see a lot of the “me” stuff but I hope it can be bigger, more soulful, and inspiring then just arbitrary food pics. After all that is what my instagram is for.

In my day job at Visiting Angels Glendora I employ about 140 people who selflessly care for others and a big part of the care they are providing is cooking for them. Sometimes, it’s just a sandwich, or depending on the client is might be their favorite meal of steak and lobster. It’s that act of preparing, serving, communing, and cleaning that is love. It doesn’t really matter if it’s a PB & J or some truffle risotto, its more about the function of serving and the companionship that takes place. For me it makes me think of biblical times and the washing of feet. Someone who loves you will spend hours prepping, perfectly preparing, and serving a meal to nourish your body and soul.

Verb: commune;

  1. share one’s intimate thoughts or feelings with (someone), especially on a spiritual level.

Try and tell me that my caregivers cooking and sharing conversations with someone in the end stages of their life, Often with very few friends or family, wether they are scared or ready, lonely or fulfilled isn’t communal then I don’t know what is.

So here we are, the begining of what I envision as not a food blog but a love blog. There will be food, wine, friends, love, shameless plugs for Visiting Angels Glendora, less then professional level grammar, but hopefully and most importantly lots and lots of caring through cooking.

If you would like to write any content please reach out through the contact link. This is not my baby, I would love to have lots of people participating.
